Apple Decide Slow Down the Development Progress of macOS to Ensure Software Quality

Apple Decide Slow Down the Development Progress

Lately, Apple’s reported plans to delay some features for iOS 12 until next year in 2019, in order ensure that high stability and performance of the system available for every software.now, the decision is similarly extending to the Mac, with the seam situation, macOS will follow the same approach this year.

Apple Decide Slow Down the Development Progress

According to Mark Gurman, reporting for Bloomberg News, Apple’s software engineering chief Craig Federighi disclosed the revised plans during a meeting with employees earlier this month. While Craig determining the iOS development effort, he is also certain that the new functionality deferred plan is also extending to macOS, but it reportedly will not affect the development cycles of watchOS or tvOS.

In the past, Apple is always focus on the quality of its current software, such as bug fixes, performance improvements, and the general stability of its operating systems.

The company told its software engineering groups about the change this month, one of the people said. The shift will also affect this year’s update to Mac computer software, but to a lesser degree, the person said, adding that planned upgrades to Apple Watch and Apple TV software won’t be affected.

Actually, in the past for a long time, the secure bug exposed in macOS is not less than in iOS, for example, a month ago, a major security vulnerability that enabled access to the root superuser account with a blank password on macOS High Sierra version 10.13.1. Apple promptly fixed the critical bug in a security update. Just weeks later, other security flaw in macOS High Sierra version 10.13.2 that allowed the App Store menu in System Preferences to be unlocked with any password.

However, in the last few weeks, Mac users came through other flaw “chaiOS”, when click on the link results in a system crash. There are multiple bugs in a short period of time, and all of them are errors that lead to serious consequences, which obviously shouldn’t happen. It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that Apple has delayed the launch of new features for stability. In 2015, iOS 9 encountered a similar problem, when Apple also delayed the development schedule.

How about this delay will work, just wait and see.

Whoops, iTunes won’t be Available in the Microsoft’ Windows Store This Year

iTunes won't be Available in the Microsoft’ Windows

Earlier this year at Microsoft’s Build conference, the company revealed it was working with Apple to get iTunes installed in the Windows Store, aiming to let users find that app easier in Windows. The promise was that it would be available by the end of 2017, but now it looks like that won’t be happening.

iTunes won't be Available in the Microsoft’ Windows

HomePod isn’t the only thing that needs a little more time from Apple before it ships. Similarity, iTunes now has the same, now ZDNet reports that the promised deadline will indeed be missed.
Here’s Apple’s statement to the publication:

“We have been working with Microsoft to deliver the full iTunes experience to our customers and we need a little more time to get it right,” said an Apple spokesperson via an emailed statement.

The author of the ZDNet article says they’ve heard that the plans still remains for iTunes to come to the Windows 10 Store (which is now the Microsoft Store) at some point.

Most of Windows users can download iTunes from any website but only except Windows Store, now the users from Windows 10 S are temporarily unavailable to use iTunes, because this version that only runs software from Windows 10 Store.

However in macOS, Apple had seeded iTunes 12.7.2 in last week. The update didn’t bring any notable new features, but Apple said it included apps and performance improvements, which are always popular when we talk about iTunes. According to Apple, the new iTunes focuses on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks.

Apple made a major change to the type of content which provided to the app earlier this year when released iTunes 12.7. In that upgrade, iTunes 12.7 had deleted application, iTunes U, internet radio, Rings and Categories like books on Windows. Clearly, Apple is looking to simplify iTunes and make it easier for users to focus on music and video.

macOS will not Support 32-bit Applications in Next year by the Start of 2018

macOS will not support 32-bit Applications

Apple’s Developer site on December 1st had shared a reminder that starting January 1st, 2018 32-bit Mac apps will no longer be accepted. After iOS 11 no longer accepts 32-bit applications, today’s Mac will also start to abandon 32-bit applications.

macOS will not support 32-bit Applications

Apple emphasized in the statement: Starting January 1, all new apps submitted to the Mac App Store must support 64-bit architecture, while existing apps must be updated to 64-bit by June 2018. Apple recommends that if you distribute your app outside of the App Store you should update your app to run 64-bit as well. This is due to the fact that macOS High Sierra will be the last macOS release to support 32-bit architecture.

The macOS High Sierra will be the last operating system to support 32-bit apps. Apple has also suggested to developers that they would need to update their existing 32-bit apps to 64-bit before June 2018. The apps to be submitted after January 2018 should also be 64-bit ones.

Obviously, Apple is taking the “mandatory” approach of cleaning up 32-bit applications just like things happened in iOS 11. According to the relevant statistics company, 1.9 million 32-bit apps on iOS 11 had been eliminated by Apple, including 40 thousand games and in the rest of which are mostly education, entertainment and life apps. For Apple, whether it’s iOS or macOS, to use 64-bit apps, meaning to make the device run faster and more smoothly, if you don’t obey, you will be uprooted!

Apple also advised developers, on the other hand, if not through the Mac app store, developers launch applications, but also had better to use 64 – bit architecture, because after that, macOS High Sierra will be the last support 32-bit applications of the operating system.

Apple also shared its support site for distributing Mac apps:

As a reminder, new apps submitted to the Mac App Store must support 64-bit starting January 2018, and Mac app updates and existing apps must support 64-bit starting June 2018. If you distribute your apps outside the Mac App Store, we highly recommend distributing 64-bit binaries to make sure your users can continue to run your apps on future versions of macOS. The last macOS release to support 32-bit apps without compromise is macOS High Sierra.

Apple just released the first public beta for MacOS High Sierra on Thursday, many of the biggest changes to the software are ones you can’t easily recognize, but it is surely that many new features have been updated into Photo app in macOS High Sierra.

That’s because Apple spent more time on improving core technologies and performance than on flashy new features. Apple did pay particular attention to its Photos app, which is getting a ton of upgrades with High Sierra.

New Features in Photo for macOS High Sierra

As a photo fan, I think you’re ready and looking forward to learn more new changes in Photo to better manage. Speaking of Live Photos, you can now edit Live Photos on your desktop with Photos much the same way as you can with iOS 11. A few new effects are brought to iOS 11, and even in High Sierra, Apple hasn’t forgotten to upgrade the editing feature in Live Photos.
The Loop effect puts the Live Photo in an infinite loop. The Bounce effect plays the action backward and forward. The Long Exposure effect blurs the moving parts of the image while keeping the still parts the same.

Take a detailed example to show how useful of these added editing features to take blurred water flowing and extended light trails: usually it needs a DSLR or a manual camera app along with a tripod. But, after having Live Photos’ Long Exposure effect, you can achieve a similar look without any additional equipment.

Users can trim or mute the clips. Also, there’s an option to select a cover photo for each Live Photo.

Works great with third‑party apps.

Photo apps on Mac can now be better integrated with third-party application tools. For example, you can now open a picture from third-party editing applications directly from Photos and the edits made in it can be synced seamlessly with the Photos app. now this new feature is supporting Adobe Photoshop and Pixelmator. To achieve the above mention, all you need to do is just right-click the image and share it with Photoshop or Pixelmator.

It also supports for third-party project extensions to help you access publishing and printing services like Animoto, ifolor, Shutterfly, WhiteWall and Wix, right within the Photos app.

Other features and improvements

memories

The Memories feature introduced in iOS 10 and macOS Sierra automatically curates the best pictures from your library and then displays them as slideshows. In High Sierra, the Photos app gains more intelligent categories like babies, weddings and birthdays in an effort to showcase even more personal moments.

Mac Photo is getting better and better

Tracing the history of Photo app development, Apple removed iPhoto and Aperture in 2014, whic were the most popular and welcomed by users at that time with the launch of OS X Yosemite operating system, and with the new replacement of brand-new Photo for Mac was born. A lot of users got upset about missing features like the star-rating system and geotagging photos. Since then, Photos has improved in many aspects by Apple, but the lack of such beloved features shows that Apple’s app still has a long way to go.

After all, Photo app in brand-new macOS High Sierra has great improvements. It’s a great step forward in photo management and basic editing. Do you like the improvements in new Photo? Just feel free to leave your comment.

mac-sierra-storage

In last page, we had also listed the new feature in macOS High Sierra: APFS is an entirely revamped, modern file system that’s optimized for solid state storage. Apple adopted the hierarchical file system at the very beginning, which is what we are familiar with HFS. Subsequently, Apple introduced its own HFS+ file system, and has been in use ever since.
New Apple File System (APFS) has solved couple of problems exist in HFS and HFS+. Honestly, most users haven’t realized these problems on their computers. In order to fix the hard drive capacity problem that limit to HFS+, APFS adopts the 64-bit APFS index node, that is file ID, while HFS+ used 32-bit, so you can think this is a great process that APFS have made.

APFS can still support the local single-key and secret-key cryptography, that is to say, users can use the FielVault to encrypt or decrypt individual files and folders, and lock/unlock the entire hard drive. Spotlight search is also a little faster than beforedue to the search itself and the capacity of the hard disk. for most users, in a word, what APFS can bring is absolutely obvious: it makes you hard drive run faster and safer than before.

New Video Standard

mac-sierra-davinci

As more and more popular of 4K video,High Efficiency Video Encoding (HEVC aka H.265) is coming in macOS High Sierra, and many of the existing apps are being updated. Frequency compression rate can be improved as high as 40%. While maintain the same video quality, video streaming is better, and storage space occupied by 2 on Mac in the usage of HEVC.

Metal 2

Metal 2 has certainly opened the door of games creation, machine learning and virtual reality content creation. The incoming Metal 2 update brings new capabilities in machine learning, virtual reality and external GPU support. No matter you areplaying games, creating or developing software, Metal 2 can provide powerful strength to help you realize your imagination.

Virtual Reality

Macos high sierra enables developers to use Mac to create interactive virtual reality experiences for the first time, developers will be able to use peripherals like the HTC Vive VR headset and apps like Final Cut Pro X, SteamVR, Epic Unreal 4 Editor and Unity Editor to create immersive new worlds, says Apple.

It replaces HFS + the new system for running 30 years. APFS is designed on the basis of 64-bit architecture, which is safer, faster, stronger, enabling higher-quality video streaming and playback of 4K video files, enhancing native encryption, space shared, file clone, snapshot, and crash protection, etc.

Video

video

Other update in macOS High Sierra is about the Video, it supports H.265 decode base on H.264 first of all, which the compressibility compared to H.264 has increased 40 percent, more importantly, the video quality remains the same. The point is that new Video has been upgraded to Metal 2 from the original Meta l in view of the GPU performance.

Metal 2

metal-2

Metal 2 provides a better development and performance log analysis function, except processing 3D video, it can also be used for deep learning, natural language processing, and thus brought a new computer vision. Apple is the first time to bring support for VR virtual reality, compatible with HTC vive meanwhile, and Apple has unveiled a new suite of Metal VR developers for developers, while optimize professional applications including Final Cut Pro x, SteamVR, and Epic Unreal 4 Editor and Unity Editor.

Internet Security Experts Remind: Mac Might be Attacked by WannaCry

WannaCry Attack

wannacry-malware

The WannaCry ransomware attack that hit nations around the world over the weekend may just be warming up, according to security experts.

In case you haven’t heard, there was a major ransomware attack on Friday whose effects were felt across the globe in 150 countries by 200,000 victims.

Earlier at the middle of May, a ransomware called Wannacry attacked the Windows operating system on the Internet. Ransomware use the advantage Windows SMB to launch an attack to all Windows who don’t have fixed the path of MS17-010, it would carry through osmotic transmission to the terminal user, and blackmail them with Bitcoin or other valuable things.

Instead of being worried and afraid like Windows users, on the other hand, users of Mac are such grateful that their devices are not under attack, but that doesn’t mean Mac users can rest assured easily.

According to CNBC, security risk management expert Aleksandr Yampolskiy said, Mac is also fragile and easily to be victim of this sort of ransomware in fact, it is totally wrong that those who thought Wannacry is no matter to launch attack for Mac.

wannacry-business-featured

Yampolskiy is the creator of SecurityScorecard, and also its CEO, he said,“This attack is only aim the targets as Windows users, Apple devices is possible losing battle under this type of cyberattack anyway”

No response has been made to the issue by Apple since the report of CNBC yet.

Yampolskiy also stressed, even if the users store their information and data to iCloud, the security itself won’t be able to improve to higher level.

“If you put the information and data to iCloud, you actually fully depend on third parties and service providers to offer protection, that is to say, once they are attacked, you are in trouble inevitably”
